Chitpur Road - a glimpse of the past

History represents a time that quite often goes beyond our memory. But in some circumstances past cling to our memory with a tag of its medieval look by swarming into the rejuvenated present. Chitpur Road, a famous place in north Kolkata, is a witness of such a glorified hallmark. Renamed as Rabindra Sarani, its length and breadth comprising of Bagbazar to M. G. Road are mostly habitated by three different communities - Bengali, Muslim and Rajasthani - protrays its exclusive trait of fine blended cultural outlook unlike other parts of the city. Inspite of hackneyed look and ramshackle condition in every nook and corner, some antique establishments like litho press, wig manufacturing, marble engraving still take us to a journey of an era branded with traditional ambience and distinctiveness. Even today this primeval atmosphere evokes a peculiar nostalgia that invite us, time and again, to quench the thrist of revisiting the past. So it's a humble attempt to walk down the memory lanes of a place of historical prodigy.
