In India brick is very essential material for building a foundation of any sort. This factory is mainly situated in the remote villages due to availability of good clay that fit for the making of brick. Another important point regarding its situation in the villages to cover the extreme exploitation from the sight of the main city's literate population.
Moved by their dismal conditions, I have been shooting their ups and downs for few years. Owing to the alarming dearth of proper housing facilities these families are coerced to set up shacks in close proximity to the brick fields. Sometimes even the owner forced them to build huts without any ventilation. Moreover owning to the scarcity of deep tubewells, clean drinking water and proper sanitary conditions, these areas become the breeding grounds of diarrhea, tuberculosis and other oung diseases. That compels them almost to the brink of death very early.
For working in this field for the past 6-7 years, I felt that those who are toiling hard to build a modern society are totally deprived from any amenities that they deserved for living a sound life. To me, these brick field factories are like isolated islands where dreams and aspirations have no place. Where workers struggle to survive from dawn to dusk fully aware that each day only leads them on to a bleak and somber future.
